Shira Seaman
Director

Shira Seaman, Director, is one of the founders of Global ESL Academy. She has had a long career in the ESL world with over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in English from Oberlin College and a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Hunter College, CUNY. In addition to teaching ESL at the International English Language Institute (IELI) at Hunter College for 18 years, Shira was the Academic Coordinator of the program for over 7 years. She has also taught in the English Department at Baruch College, at the Institute for Language and Culture at Fordham University as well as in the Master's in TESOL Program at Hunter College. Shira has a love of languages as well as a love of teaching and she speaks German, Swiss German and Spanish.

Bonnie Veronico
Assistant Director

Bonnie Veronico holds a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese Studies from SUNY Albany and a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Hunter College, CUNY. She has over 10 years experience in admissions and international recruiting. Bonnie started her career with Embassy English as Admissions Manager for the Asia region, then moved on to work in their Tokyo office counseling students in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan on choosing and applying to colleges in the US based on their language needs and career interests. Bonnie has worked at Berkeley College as an International Admissions Advisor, and Pacific College of Oriental Medicine to kickstart their international recruiting. Recently, she has worked at Hunter College as the TESOL MA Program Assistant, and values helping students with all aspects of their studies. At Global ESL Academy, Bonnie is expert at helping our students with their research into colleges in the US and the application process. She also speaks conversational Japanese and is happy to practice any chance she can.

Kenny Lee
IT Manager / Registration Coordinator

Kenny Lee came to the United States from Korea over 20 years ago and has more than 15 years of experience working in ESL schools. He began working at the IELI at Hunter College while he was enrolled in ESL classes there and after he discovered his love of computers and technology-related work, he later majored in Network Administration at college. Kenny really enjoys helping international students because when he first came to the USA, a lot of people helped him to adjust to this new country and its culture.

Angela Youngju Choi
Co-Founder

Angela Youngju Choi is a native Korean speaker who learned English as a Second Language (ESL) herself. After completing her Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Hunter College, CUNY, she taught ESL at Hunter College and Medgar Evers College and worked as an administrator in the International English Language Institute (IELI) at Hunter College. Her passion and dedication for ESL come from her own learning and teaching experiences and she believes anyone can learn at any phase of his or her life.
