Higher Education Academic Advising
Our Director of Student Services is available to help our students who want to further their higher education to identify and choose the most suitable undergraduate and graduate programs at colleges and universities in the United States. We also offer (for a fee*) step-by-step help with the entire application process including giving students advice on where to apply, which papers from one’s country are needed and which tests a student will need to take. We also help with the submission of all necessary paperwork and applications directly to the colleges and universities which the student chooses to apply to. Orientation Programs for New Students
At these orientations, students will obtain information on class and attendance requirements and academic policies at Global ESL Academy, on F-1 (Student) Visa requirements and maintaining one’s status, on getting around New York, on opening a bank account, on getting a cellular phone and on other topics that are essential for people newly arrived in this country.
These workshops include topics such as “How to obtain a driver’s license in New York,” “How to file income taxes if someone is not a resident or a citizen of the United States” and “An extension of an educational stay in the United States”.
Global ESL Academy strongly advises our students to make housing arrangements before they come to the United States. We can help students who need short-term or long-term housing in different settings such as in a homestay in an American home or in dormitory-style single or double rooms in neighborhood guest houses. If students would like to arrange their own housing and need information, we can still assist them. Please note all requests for housing arrangements should be made at least 6 to 8 weeks prior to the arrival and there is a small fee* charged for the service. If you need more information or would like us to arrange housing for you, please email us at email@example.com.
*The exact amount depends on the type of housing and length of stay.
Below are descriptions of the different housing options that we can help you with:
You can rent a private room in a local American home and live with a family where you can practice your English and learn about American culture. All host families are very carefully selected with respect to the safety of their neighborhoods, the proximity to public transportation and the welcoming ability of the host family. Homestay arrangements are made through our partnered agency, Sara’s Homestay, which has a wide network of host families in the New York City area and has served international students for over 10 years.
